R08 – Abu Dhabi – FIA Formula 2 Race Preview
The FIA Formula 2 Championship season will come to its conclusion this weekend in Abu Dhabi, with teams and drivers lining up for the traditional Yas Marina finale.
PREMA racing will go back into action a few days after claiming an early 2022 Team Championship in Saudi Arabia, supporting drivers Oscar Piastri and Robert Shwartzman as they contend for the driver title in their final appearance under the team’s banner.
The 20-year-old Aussie lands in the Emirates with a comfortable margin, but his teammate is still on the hunt. The 22-year-old Russian is determined not to leave anything on the table, both in terms of attacking Piastri and defending P2 in standings.
Getting the right chemistry with the track straight away will be paramount as its layout was revised for this season. The 5.3-km venue was simplified around the old corners 7 and 11 to provide more chances for overtaking. With limited time available, the drivers will need to show high adaptation skills.
Rene Rosin – Team Principal
“It is quite exciting to head into the series finale with two drivers at the top of the points standings. On the other hand, we must remember that we are not done yet. We won the team title one race early at Jeddah, and that was a truly amazing accomplishment by all our members, but we need one final push for Oscar and Robert. We want to wave them goodbye in the best possible way.”
