PREMA, Vesti take dominant Monte Carlo Feature Race win

PREMA Racing scored its fourth win of the year today at Monte Carlo as Frederik Vesti dominated the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race from pole to take his second win of 2023 and cruise into the championship lead.

Vesti held the lead at the start, pulling away from the field in the opening laps. With the safety car out due to a heavy crash, the 21-year-old Dane came in for his mandatory stop before the situation turned into a red flag. When the race resumed, he was unfazed though, and took the chequered flag with a remarkable advantage.

Ollie Bearman also delivered a stellar race from the eighth row of the grid. The 18-year-old British rookie got a blistering start and put himself into the points zone, where he navigated with the authority of a veteran. Despite having already completed his stop before the safety car, losing the chance to make more gains, he eventually finished P11, capping an incredibly promising run for the races to come.

With the points achieved throughout the weekend, PREMA Racing retained P1 in the team championship ahead of the coming Barcelona round.

7 FREDERIK VESTI

“It’s Sunday and we just won the feature race in Monaco! A lot of feelings, and lots of happy moments here to win with PREMA. Our second Feature Race win of the year, taking pole position and the championship lead. There is one race every year that you want to win, and it’s this one. Yesterday night I was trying to be positive, but a lot of things can go wrong in this event, and those things are pressure. I needed to manage them, and I managed them well. That’s thanks to my team, PREMA, and my personal team with me throughout the weekend. We need to keep pushing as we are only in round five, there are still plenty of them to go. The next stop is Barcelona already next week. I’m really motivated to continue this form we will do our best there.”

“Overall, I’m quite happy with the performance, even if the result doesn’t show it because, without the red flag, we were in for a decent result. The car felt mega today like it did yesterday, and the team deserves more. We know that this track is all about a good qualifying, and obviously, we didn’t have that. Anyway, happy with this performance, let’s bounce back!”
