PREMA Racing on the podium again with Mick Schumacher

PREMA Racing completed an incredibly rewarding weekend at Hungaroring, as the third round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship wrapped up with another podium finish with Mick Schumacher, and race 1 winner Robert Shwartzman gathering valuable points to hold onto his championship lead.

Starting with dry tires on still a damp track, the drivers faced a challenging run, but the toughest thing turned out to be managing tire degradation, which forced most of the field to make unscheduled pitstops. After making his way to third place early with some great moves, Mick Schumacher made good use of his soft rubber to remain on the podium for the second day in a row. Shwartzman, who also opted to pit, finished P4, maximizing the points collected with another consistent and troublefree drive up from the eighth place on the grid.

Signing off the third round of the F2 and F3 season, and heading towards a double event at Silverstone, PREMA Racing wishes to thank the team’s personnel for their outstanding work and response to extraordinary conditions both on track, with severe weather and in between races, with the limitations due to health concerns.

MICK SCHUMACHER

“Two podiums in two days – a great yield! Today it was mainly about tyre management, which worked very well for us. Due to the different strategies there have been many position changes and it was particularly important for me to overtake three cars after my pit stop so that I could concentrate on saving tyres again in the final phase. What the team delivered this weekend was sensational. It’s a real pity that there is now a one week break because we are in great form.”

“In general, I’m delighted about the weekend. We scored 8 points for P4 today, and 33 in total for the weekend. At the start, T1 it was just about surviving, and then I just attacked as much as I could. At first, I managed my tires, but the front left started to go away soon, so we went for the pit-stop. I think it was the right call. I moved up to P4 with some good fights and tried to catch up with Mick, but tire degradation came into play again so I went back to management, keeping the position. Really good job by the team, even though qualifying was completely the opposite of the races. Now we need to prepare ourselves really well for Silverstone and do even better.”
