PREMA Racing among the frontrunners in Sochi Qualifying
PREMA Racing experienced a solid opening day at Sochi. The Russian facility is hosting round 10 of the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship this weekend, and both Mick Schumacher and Robert Shwartzman posted the third and seventh fastest lap time of qualifying respectively.
The 21-year-old German driver, who is looking to solidify his championship lead, improved his position with his second set of tyres and took P3 in a close session at the unconventional facility near the Black Sea.
Shwartzman, on the other hand, settled for P7. The Russian was competitive from the beginning and showed great potential, but couldn’t put it all together in the end and will start from row 4 in tomorrow’s feature race. Sochi delivered challenging and unexpected races in the past, so nothing is compromised in terms of the potential results for the weekend.
#20 MICK SCHUMACHER
“We can be completely satisfied with 3rd place. In my last attempt I managed to improve in all three sectors, as I felt much more comfortable with the second set of tyres than with the first. The Carlin boys looked very strong today, but we want to make their lives as hard as possible tomorrow. Maybe it could be an advantage to start on the clean side.”
Qualifying: P3
Fastest Lap: 1:48.883
#21 ROBERT SHWARTZMAN
“The potential today was quite good, but we didn’t manage to put it all together in the end. I made a couple of small mistakes, and we ended up a bit off from P1. Not exactly the qualifying I was hoping for. We need to do a good start from P7 and a good race, and hopefully, we will get a good result too because the pace is definitely there.”
Qualifying: P7
