R10 Sochi – FIA Formula 2 Race Preview

The FIA Formula 2 Championship is set for one of its most pivotal rounds of the year in Sochi, as the famous Russian tourist resort will be the home of round 10 of the 2020 series this weekend.
PREMA Racing is looking forward to being back on track this weekend. In addition to leading the team championship, Mick Schumacher is holding the lead of the drivers’ championship, a lead which he wants to keep and increase in Russia. The 21-year-old German driver will be the man to beat, with many threatening contenders aiming for the spotlight.
The main challenger will be Robert Shwartzman. The Russian, who just celebrated his 21st birthday, will be extremely motivated to do well in his home weekend, and Sochi brings him back great memories to when he sealed the FIA Formula 3 title last year.
Further motivation will come from the presence of general public, which will be finally admitted to the event after a very limited crowd was allowed last time around at Mugello.
Running alongside the Black Sea, the former Olympic Park will pose a great challenge and while the competitive spirit will be sharper than ever, mistakes might prove increasingly more costly as the season enters its final phase.
Rene Rosin – Team Principal
“Running at Sochi will be particularly exciting for us. We are leading the team standings, and we will field the championship leader and the home favourite, who is also in close pursuit in points. Pressure will be there for sure, but we always enter the weekend with the same hard-working attitude aimed at maximizing the result and not making mistakes. We will put both drivers in the best conditions, and support them as much as we can. We will see how it goes.”
