PREMA, Hauger score top-5 finish in wet qualifying
Dennis Hauger pulled off a late flying lap to take P5 at the end of FIA Formula 2 qualifying at Imola.
With a wet but drying track, the Norwegian found a good gap in his last timed lap to gain solid qualifying positions for both Race 1 and 2.
The session, which started later than anticipated due to today’s tough weather and interruptions in F1 qualifying, was punctuated by incidents and by the resulting disruptions.
Jehan Daruvala also made it to the top-10 in P8 and will start Race 1 from the second row of the reverse grid. The Indian was consistently fast throughout a session, but a late spin prevented him from maximising his final attempt.
The weather is expected to improve for the two final days of the weekend, with drivers forced to adapt to an unknown situation and different variables.
#1 DENNIS HAUGER
“It feels really good to get that step up in terms of results. It felt better to nail the lap and it’s a decent position to start in the races this weekend. In the end, I can’t complain especially after set one, when the situation looked quite dark, and we made a good improvement to get up to P5. We just have to keep our heads cool, it’s probably going to be dry tomorrow, it’s going to be the first run for everyone in that conditions and it will be interesting to see how it goes.”
Qualifing: P5
Fastest Lap: 1’40″572
#2 JEHAN DARUVALA
“Tricky qualifying with the weather, but in general I think we had good pace. I was improving in the second lap and we were quite strong. It’s tough to tell, we have to look at the data, but I think top-3 was definitely possible, I was third after the first lap. The car was strong I just pushed a bit too much and made a mistake. A bit frustrating, but in the end, the weekend is not over. We start third tomorrow and eighth on Sunday, we can score good points.”
