Bearman, PREMA claim second weekend podium at Spa-Francorchamps
Coming from a win in yesterday’s first race, Ollie Bearman completed a brilliant weekend today at Spa-Francorchamps by finishing third in race 2 and closing into the lead of the championship.
The British rookie started from P8 and moved his way up the field to take P5 right after the start. Despite having to deal with long laps behind the safety-car, the Ferrari Driver Academy member maximised his chances especially in the latest stages, cruising to P3 at the end.
The safety-car situations limited the chances for recovery of teammates Arthur Leclerc, who moved from P20 back to P11 and, Red Bull Junior Jak Crawford, who fought back from P30 to P17. With many championship contenders hitting trouble, the driver Championship is wide open with five drivers covered by 10 points. On the other hand, PREMA Racing keeps leading the Team Championship with a hefty margin.

“Bad weekend overall in terms of points, it was compromised after qualifying in P20. We did a really good sprint race and also the feature race, but the limit for us trying to go back in front was the time behind the safety car. That compromised the opportunity to show a good pace. Now onto Zandvoort, many things can happen, we are still positioned really well in the championship.”

“It was not a very fun race, a lot of safety cars which made it difficult to move up the field. It was my fault in qualifying that put us so back in the races. It means we have a lot of points to make up in the next two rounds.”

“A good race, another podium, I think it’s the third time in a row for me taking P3 in a feature race. I think we maximized this weekend. After qualifying, I was a bit disappointed with myself because we didn’t maximize it. Personally, I look forward to Zandvoort because it’s super important there. P1 and P3 I’m quite happy because it’s good points for the championship. On to the last few rounds, it’s pretty close at the top.”
