PREMA has difficult race 1 in Bahrain

PREMA Racing had a challenging run in race 1 at the Bahrain International Circuit, home to the opening round of the 2023 FIA Formula 2 season. Lining up for the sprint race at the middle eastern venue, the team’s two drivers ended up in P15 and P17 respectively.

Both Frederik Vesti and Ollie Bearman made an optional pit-stop as they were both running out of the points zone and took the opportunity to get more chemistry with the option tyres. In the end, the 17-year-old Brit gained the most positions finishing into the top-15, while the Dane ended up two spots adrift.

Vesti will start from P5 in the feature race, while Bearman will take off again from P12.

7 FREDERIK VESTI

“It’s been a very tough race. We were running out of the points zone, and with 10 laps to go we decided to box. It’s good to know the prime tyres, and if there was a safety-car maybe we could still have had a chance. In the end, we finished P17, but there’s a lot to learn for tomorrow. It was not a clean and smooth race, we need to make a step.”

Qualifying: P5
Starting Position Race 1: P9
Fastest Lap: 1:41.897
Race 2: P17

2 OLLIE BEARMAN

“Difficult race. We struggled quite a lot with the option tyres so we decided to pit and see if it would work. I didn’t quite manage to catch the pack, but it was good learning for the race tomorrow.“

Qualifying: P12
Starting Position Race 1: P12
Fastest Lap: 1:42.026
Race 1: P15
