PREMA Racing gains double points finish at Melbourne
Ollie Bearman and Frederik Vesti captured points and finishes in race 1 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Melbourne, which featured a lengthy late safety car and an unforeseen rain shower that gave teams and drivers more variables to consider and dangers to confront.
The shower, however, caused a late crash and a safety car, and by the time the safety car completed its proceedings, the rain had already stopped, with the track returning almost dry.
Starting from P5, rookie Ollie Bearman secured his second points finish of the year in P7, as he continued to learn the ropes of the series. The British racer kept his nose clean and maximized the final couple of laps by getting in front of teammate Vesti.
The Dane had an impressive early run starting from P13 after a red flag-affected qualifying. Making gains with pure overtaking at the start, he got up to the seventh place, before settling for P8 at the end but laying good foundations for tomorrow.
7 FREDERIK VESTI
“We fought back from P13 to P8, I just got overtaken at the last lap, which was a bit unfortunate. But we got a good start and overall a good pace in the car. We need to work on a few things for tomorrow, and I hope we can score very good points.”

“Not a bad race in the end with P7. I just made a mistake halfway through the race and lost a few positions by putting myself in the wrong place. That was a bit silly, but the pace was good, and the car felt great. Let’s go for some better points tomorrow.”
