Vesti, PREMA Racing secure stellar pole in Monaco

PREMA Racing secured a valuable points finish today at Monte Carlo, as Race 1 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship weekend went underway today in the famous Principality. With a reverse top-10 grid, yesterday’s pole winner Frederik Vesti started from P10 for the Sprint Race and delivered a solid run, making the most of every opportunity and finishing in P9.

Ollie Bearman, who had to start from row 8 due to a tough qualifying session, had a brilliant run gaining several positions but eventually falling victim of an unavoidable contact, which ended up in a DNF.

Tomorrow’s longer Race 2 will feature Vesti starting from the front row, while Bearman will face another tough challenge fighting back.

7 FREDERIK VESTI

“Race 1 in Monaco is finished and as expected, it was a difficult race to overtake. However, we got what we needed from it, to prepare for tomorrow. We had a good start and a good feeling with the car. A bit of fine tuning for today and then we are ready for tomorrow, from pole position.”

A bit of a tough race today. Unfortunate to finish with a DNF, but I think the car felt good. I managed to make a few positions which is always hard in this track. It was quite fun on that side, I just had to avoid a crash. My choice was to touch the other car or touch the wall to avoid it, and had to touch the wall so I bent the steering. However, it was always going to be difficult after the tough qual yesterday”
