GP3 Monza Preview

The Championship:
The teams are heading to the legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza for Round 6 of Season 2017 just a few days after last weekend’s race which was held at Circuit de Spa-Franchorchamps. George Russell took back the leadership with an incredible first and second place in Belgium grabbing fastest lap on both races and taking a 36 points advantage ahead of 2 of his teammates Jack Aitken and Nirei Fukuzumi with Giuliano Alesi behind.
With 3 drivers on top ART Grand Prix are leading the Teams’ Standings by 196 points over Trident. They can easily grab the Teams’ Champions title for the 7th time in 8 seasons already this weekend, if they outscore Trident by 9 points. While 4 teams have drivers in top 10, DAMS still remains the only team without podium score this season.
The Track:
The Italian track is also known as the Temple of Speed with being the fastest circuit of the calendar.
“Braking is the main thing for a good lap there, but you have to be so focused” started Alessio Lorandi, Jenzer Motorsport’s driver about his home track. The long straights and high speed increases the importance of slipstreaming, which is the key of a quick lap at the Italian track “Try to get a good slipstream and just concentrate on getting everything right: you can’t miss an apex or a braking point, and you have to be so committed” said the local driver before the weekend.

The 5.8 kilometers long track provides good overtaking opportunities. With the equal opportunities from the cars, drivers’ talent will come to the forefront. While a good team strategy can easily lead to victory, as qualifying results here will be less important than usual.
New Driver:
Following Juan Manuel Correa another new driver joins GP3 Series. The British Fan Ticktum had been competing in Formula Renault 2.0 this season and will be joining DAMS to compete the final three rounds of Season 2017 GP3 Series.
