Bearman claims podium finish with late charge at Hungaroring
Ollie Bearman delivered a fine performance at the Hungaroring, securing a hard-fought podium finish in race 1 of the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the Hungarian venue.
The 18-year-old British racer had a positive getaway from P4 and quickly gained one spot. After getting shuffled back to P5 in an early battle, he chose the long game and managed his tyres to perfection throughout the race. In the end, he took advantage of a close call ahead to reclaim P4, and eventually made a clean move to P3 on lap 26. It was his fourth podium finish of 2023 after the wins achieved in Baku and Barcelona.
Frederik Vesti started from P8 but dropped back to the 10th place in a three-way battle in the opening couple of laps. The Dane also focused on consistency for the middle stages and made a step to P9 in the end with fine manoeuver.
The PREMA pairing will try to get more valuable results in tomorrow’s Feature Race.

“We got no points in the Sprint Race, which is frustrating, but I still think we had a great car and made a good overtake at the end. We didn’t have the best first few laps and lost a few positions, which prevented us from scoring points, but I think we learned something today. Hopefully, we can use that learning to do a good job tomorrow.”

“Nice race today. It’s good to take my first podium that wasn’t a P1 because it shows that the consistency is coming. It was a tough start. I got a bit stuck on the outside and lost a couple of positions. We played the long game, waited until the end, and made a really nice move to pass Pourchaire. I couldn’t quite get the fastest lap, but it was close, and I got a lot of confidence going into the Feature Race tomorrow.”
