PREMA Racing, Logan Sargeant score front row for Race 1 at Hungaroring

PREMA Racing delivered solid results in a rain-delayed qualifying for the FIA Formula 3 Championship at Hungaroring. Back on track for round 3 of 2020, the series faced more adverse weather conditions in the opening day with the session pushed to the late afternoon after the severe rain of earlier.

With the conditions improving throughout the running, American racer Logan Sargent fought for pole position from start to finish and eventually settled for a close second place, enough for a front row starting spot in tomorrow’s race 1.

A well-timed late flying lap enabled Frederik Vesti to post a valuable fourth place, while the championship leader, Australian Oscar Piastri, ended up not far behind in P6 after impressing in the first part of the session, although he still missed a final bit to be on top when the checkered flag fell.

OSCAR PIASTRI

“It was not the best qualifying I’d say, especially considering the potential we had after the first set. With the second set of tires, it was just a bit messy and I didn’t feel as good. We’ll see what race 1 brings. If it’s wet we definitely got a good pace. Today it just didn’t happen in the last couple of laps but I’m still confident for tomorrow, hopefully, we can make up some spots.”

Qualifying: P6
Fastest lap: 1:52.278

FREDERIK VESTI

“I’m very happy to have finished in P4, it was my very last lap, with a lot of pressure, but I put it all together in the end and I’m really satisfied. The car was solid but there are things we need to improve if it gets wet again, which is actually good, to have room for improvement. Today it was difficult, but also really fun to drive in the wet. I hope for the dry tomorrow so we can get going with a clean start.”

Qualifying: P4

LOGAN SARGEANT

“We had a pretty good qualy, we ended P2 and we’re making steps towards P1 so that’s always positive. The session was super tricky and I didn’t have much grip out there. It wasn’t an easy one for sure, but it’s a long run down to turn 1 tomorrow, starting P2 I think we can definitely aim to win the race.”

Qualifying: P2
Fastest lap: 1:51.206
