PREMA Racing scores one podium, three points finishes in race 2 at Red Bull Ring

PREMA Racing brought home another podium finish at Red Bull Ring as the second race of the weekend wrapped up the FIA Formula 3 Championship Austrian doubleheader to complete round 2 of 2020.

Logan Sargent crossed the finish line in second place, making the most of a late contact between two contenders to cap a troublefree run. While the safety-car prevented the 19-year-old Floridian from making a final attack to the win, he still got valuable points in a reversed grid race with many contenders facing troubled runs. Knowing that perfectly, Sargeant focused on maximizing the number of points taken.

Oscar Piastri rounded out the top-5 to take more points. Despite having to deal with a DRS issue, the 19-year-old Renault Sport Academy driver put up a brilliant pace which included setting the fastest lap of the race. That enabled him to maintain and increase his championship lead.

Back in 8th, Frederik Vesti started from P10 following his race 1 win. The Dane fought within DRS train of the leading pack to secure good points. With Piastri, Vesti and Sargeant sitting on top of the driver standings, the FIA Formula 3 Championship and PREMA Racing will now move straight to Budapest for the third round of the season at Hungaroring.

#1 OSCAR PIASTRI

“A very eventful race again. The first few laps weren’t amazing and I lost a few spots, then I had some big problems with the DRS which were also compromising. Towards the end it wasn’t too bad and I made up a few spots on track, plus two spots from the contact on top. The fastest lap on the last lap definitely helped out with the points. Not too bad overall, but we still have room for improvement and hopefully in Hungary we can keep the championship lead.”

#2 FREDERIK VESTI

“I would say it was a decent race as the car felt quite good although there are still some things we can improve for the coming weekends. It’s good that we have some potential. We finished P8 among a lot of hard fights, it was really close racing and being in the DRS train made it even more difficult. I fought as hard as I could and we got some good points for the campionship. This round we came much closer to the championship lead and it was only the second out of nine. We still have a lot to do, we need to keep working as hard as we did from round 1 to round 2 to come back even stronger at Hungaroring.”

Race 2: P8

#3 LOGAN SARGEANT

“It’s been a great race for us. I didn’t take any chances even though I had a great car underneath me. It was a good way to bounce back because we’ve had a lot of stuff thrown at us this weekend and we still came away with good points. I think we can be happy. Moving forward to tracks I like even more, I think we can do a really good job.”
