Mick Schumacher takes points finish in Race 1

It was a challenging day for PREMA Racing at Silverstone, as the team lined-up for the opening race of the weekend with Mick Schumacher starting in third place and Robert Shwartzman farther down the grid in P18.

The German had a superb start, making the most of a place left open by a rival on the grid. He then drove a solid opening stint before strategies came into play. Schumacher stopped early to move from the softer option tyres to the prime, but lost a couple of spots in the proceedings and eventually suffered a massive drop in tire performance. He eventually finished in P9.

Shwartzman moved up straight away and managed to gain positions using the reverse strategy, prime to option. He crossed the finish line in P14.

The team is now set for another hard fight tomorrow in race 2.

#20 MICK SCHUMACHER

“I had a great start and took the lead already before the first corner. Unfortunately, our tyre degradation was relatively high today, so that at the end with ninth place we didn’t get the result we’d hoped for. Now we will immediately start to analyze the data and try to improve the tyre management for tomorrow’s race.”

#21 ROBERT SHWARTZMAN

“It’s been a difficult race today and a difficult race weekend so far. I find myself struggling both with my driving and with the car. I was expecting it to be more stable and the tyres to last longer so now we need to do a lot of work to understand where and why we lost so much ground. We need some good motivation and having nothing to lose it’s time to try new things that hopefully can work better than the old.”
