PREMA Racing shows good pace despite no top-5 results

It was another difficult qualifying session for PREMA Racing at Silverstone in qualifying for the back-to-back British weekend of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. The team started well in practice, with both drivers positioned well up in the ranking and Mick Schumacher leading the field, with Robert Shwartzman not far in P4.

The qualifying session, which started with a delay due to track repairs, saw both drivers initially setting good laptimes but then falling short of the top-5 despite the strong potential shown. Schumacher and Shwartzman were also denied one last flying lap by a spinning car which brought out the yellow flags. In the end, the 21-year-old German had to settle for the 8th position while the Russian classified in P11.

The team is now bracing for a challenging race in an effort to recover as many positions as possible, on a racetrack that has offered good chances for comebacks in the past.

#20 MICK SCHUMACHER

“P8 does not reflect the true potential of the car. However, last week has shown that the starting position is not that crucial for the outcome of the race, if the race pace is right. We worked on this very carefully this morning in Free Practice and hopefully it will pay off tomorrow so that we can work our way forward.”

Qualifying: P8

Fastest lap: 1:39.448

#21 ROBERT SHWARTZMAN

“Qualifying was not as I expected it to be and I feel we could have done a better job in terms of the results. The team was great in changing the car quickly to solve the issues from the first stint. Unfortunately, we did not go in the right direction, which happens. But even with some balance issues though, I felt that the car was going quick. P11 is a frustrating result to me because I was hoping to be at least in the top-5 with our pace. We need to keep learning and trying, and I hope for a really interesting race tomorrow. I will try my best to recover as many positions as possible.”

Qualifying: P11
