PREMA Racing claims promising qualifying results at Imola

PREMA Racing secured two positive results in qualifying for the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Imola.

Ollie Bearman and Kimi Antonelli showed great potential since Practice at the Italian venue and had a strong chance to battle for pole in the qualifying session. The British racer held P1 in the closing stages and was second when the checkered flag fell, two spots in front of his Italian teammate. Antonelli continued to impress in his first FIA F2 race in Europe, not far from home, posting a solid row 2 start for the Feature Race.

While the team’s fastest lap times were initially deleted due to track limits concerns, both drivers were reinstated upon further review. Bearman and Antonelli are thus heading into the rest of the weekend with confidence hoping to make good championship gains on race day.

3 OLLIE BEARMAN

“P2 in qualifying after our fastest lap was given back to us, and I’m so happy to be back where we belong. The car felt good and I feel we had the pace all along. I’m looking forward to the rest of the weekend on one of my favourite tracks. I’m going to try my very best to bring home the results we all deserve!”

Qualifying: P2
Fastest lap: 1:27.111

4 KIMI ANTONELLI

“The day started pretty well, and I felt quite good with the car since practice. In qualifying I made an early mistake with the first set of tyres, but then I improved and got a clean lap, which gave me confidence for set 2. The warm-up was not easy for the second set due to cars slowing down, and I couldn’t really push on the tyres, especially the fronts. There was potential left, but we still got P4, which is a very decent starting point for the races.”
